REPORT ON COUNCIL
\n<\/strong>May. 9, 2016
\n<\/strong>Committee of the Whole Meeting: 9:00 a.m. \u2013 4:41 p.m.
\n<\/em>Regular Meeting of Council: 4:52 p.m. \u2013 5:19 p.m.
\n<\/em>All members of Council present: Mayor George Cornell, Deputy Mayor Steffen Walma and Councillors Cindy Hastings, Richard Hinton and Gibb Wishart.<\/em><\/p>\n

NEW TOWNSHIP EMPLOYEE:
\n<\/strong>Karen Alexander has become the Township\u2019s new Community Engagement Leader.<\/p>\n

COUNTY ELECTRIC VEHICLE POWER STATIONS:
\n<\/strong>The County has received funding for three electric vehicle power stations. They are to be installed in high traffic corridors.<\/p>\n

COMMITTEE STRUCK TO CONSIDER TOWNSHIP OFFICE REQUIREMENTS<\/strong>:
\nAfter considering the \u201cMunicipal Administration Building Needs Assessment Report\u201d prepared by R.J. Burnside & Associates and Ted Handy & Associates in May 2014, Council decided to strike a committee \u201cto recommend next steps in addressing current and future office accommodation requirements.\u201d This Ad Hoc Committee is to include members of staff and Mayor Cornell and Councillor Richard Hinton.<\/p>\n

We note that the Report only considered the office space in the municipal administration buildings at 130 Balm Beach Road West while ignoring the space available in the Works Department building, the Wyevale Fire Hall, and the Pump House building, under the assumption that all offices should be housed under one roof. We hope the Ad Hoc Committee will consider space in all Township buildings when arriving at its recommendations.<\/p>\n

HOUSEKEEPING AMENDMENTS TO ZONING BY-LAW 06-001<\/strong>:
\nThis \u2013 By-law 16-035 — is the third housekeeping amendment to the Zoning By-law.<\/p>\n

ATVS TO BE ALLOWED ON TOWNSHIP ROADS<\/strong>:
\nCouncil decided to allow ATVs to use roads that have been assumed by the Township. A By-law is to be developed to implement the conditions under which such use is appropriate. The conditions appear in Public Works Report PWR-08-16, under Staff Reports\/Public Works in the May 9, 2016 Committee of the Whole.<\/p>\n

VACANCY ON HERITAGE ADVISORY COMMITTEE<\/strong>:
\nAs a result of the resignation of Delva Lacroix from the Heritage Advisory Committee, a space has become available on the Committee. It is to be filled from the list of original applicants. [At the Regular Meeting on May 30, it was announced that Mildred (Dee-Dee) Armyakov was appointed to fill the vacancy.]<\/p>\n

TOWNSHIP PARTICIPATION IN THE COUNTY\u2019S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMNT TRANSITIONAL FUNDING PROGRAM<\/strong>.
\nTiny is an equal partner in the County\u2019s Economic Development Program, which is focused on manufacturing and tourism, even though the township wants neither. New factories will pay taxes in the two towns. Tourism costs Tiny Township significant moneys for by-law enforcement, garbage clean-up, and the like.<\/p>\n
