REPORT ON COUNCIL <\/strong>
\nFeb. 27, 2015
\nCommittee of the Whole Meeting: 9:00 a.m. \u2013 12:39 p.m.
\nRegular Meeting of Council: 1:33 p.m. \u2013 2:10 p.m.
\nMembers of Council present: Mayor George Cornell, Deputy Mayor Steffen Walma, Councillors Cindy Hastings and Gibb Wishart. Councillor Richard Hinton absent.<\/em><\/p>\n

CHAMPLAIN COMMEMORATIONS 2015: <\/strong>
\nCandice Moreau presented an update on Champlain Commemorations to Council. She explained that Tiny Township is one of four main partners planning celebrations of the 400th year since Champlain arrived in Huronia (the other partners being the towns of Midland and Penetanguishene and the North Simcoe Community Futures Development Corporation). The group has applied for a number of grants and the main partners have made contributions. The initiatives, projects and events planned for 2015 are: Champlain\u2019s Astrolabe Exhibit, Festival du Loup, Order of Good Cheer Events, Georgian Bay Brewery\/Coffee Partnership, Champlain Literary Competition, Mural and \u201cWall Art\u201d Projects, Ancient Lacrosse Festival, Rendez-vous Midland, Rendez-vous Penetanguishene, and M\u00e9tis Annual General Assembly. Future Projects and Initiatives include Champlain Look-outs in Tiny, Archaeological Symposium, Ontario Heritage Plaque, and Annual Lacrosse Tournament.<\/p>\n

CYCLE SIMCOE: <\/strong>
\nThis group promotes safe cycling throughout the County of Simcoe and is interested in cycling as part of a package to attract tourists. It has an Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant for signage, route development, stakeholder consultation, and the like. Council was very supportive and enthusiastic. Cycle Simcoe is asking for a $3,000 \u201cbuy-in\u201d from each participating community to help with the cost of signage, maps, and so on. No decision was taken about this request. AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY PLANNING STRATEGY:<\/strong>
\nSince it has accepted the province\u2019s invitation to participate in Age-Friendly Community Planning, Council decided to establish a committee to support participation of older persons in the activities of the community.<\/p>\n

NEW STREET NAME:<\/strong>
\nCouncil approved \u201cGlenn Howard Court\u201d as the name of a street in the Copeland Creek South Subdivision.<\/p>\n
