Sludge “comment” misleads

The August, 1995 Tiny Ties says that Council “reported” that Council “has publically stated that it feels ‘comfortable’ with the continuing practice of spreading treated sludge and raw sewage fresh from our septic tanks, on agricultural fields here in the Township.”

Council never made any statement to that effect. It has not made any statement about septage. Tiny’s Council has made only one mention of “sludge” since its election last November, 1994. In April, 1995, Council passed a resolution saying it would NOT participate in an area environmental assessment hearing to establish a sludge storage facility BECAUSE Tiny does not produce “sludge”, the product of a sewage treatment plant. Tiny does not have a sewage treatment plant. Tiny only produces “septage”, the waste pumped from septic tanks; septage is the sole responsiblity of the sewage tank haulers.
