Tiny Cottager Survey: Short Term Rentals in Tiny

The Tiny Cottager is conducting a survey and we want to hear what you have to say about Short Term Rentals in Tiny. Whether you’re a renter, an owner, a neighbour or a concerned resident, we want to hear from you!

Airbnb has changed the world of vacations and Tiny is feeling the shift. Short Term Rentals, or STRs, are normally understood as any unit that is rented for 29 days or less. In 2015, the Township clarified that “the rental of a Dwelling Unit (example: the entire cottage or home) is permitted throughout the Municipality pursuant to the Zoning By-law.  The Council of The Township of Tiny has reviewed and discussed the subject of Short Term Rentals based on residents’ concerns and inquiries. Council has passed Resolutions to adopt a “Strict Enforcement Policy”.This means that the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers will operate a zero tolerance mandate (ie. No Warnings) relative to repeat by-law infraction issues related to Short Term Rentals where evidence supports a charge against the landowner and the renter.

In 2018, there were only 8 complaints to the Township about noise from rental properties but informal feedback suggests that residents have a lot more to say so we want to hear from you. We will publish the results online along with follow-up information in the Spring 2020 Tiny Cottager. Let us know what you think, whether you’re a happy STR landlord, a relaxed renter or a disgruntled neighbour!
