Health Care in Tiny – Where to Start?
By Al Taylor

As a permanent resident of Tiny….and aging…..I have known that somewhere down the road I might need to access health services (not now, thank heaven). But, where to start? Cutbacks have crippled our health care system and once you try to get some information you may find yourself referred elsewhere and that can be frustrating. Although there are a number of services like the ER at Huronia District Hospital for emergencies, what about long term health care, home visits, physiotherapy, and personal care?

A good starting point is “Community Care Access Centre Simcoe County” (CCACSC).

They provide access to community care information and health services and work in partnership with clients and their families, agencies, schools, hospitals and long term care homes.

So, if you or someone you know:

• needs nursing care, therapy, or personal care at home,
• needs information about community support services,
• needs information about admission to a long term care home,
• has a child who requires medical or rehabilitation services

and if you or that person live in Simcoe County and have a valid Ontario Health Card, give these people a call. They help thousands of people each year, including frail elderly people with cognitive difficulties or physical impairment and those who require end-of-life care.

“Community Care Access Centre Simcoe County” is a non-profit organization funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. There is no cost to you for CCACSC services.

Services include:

• Case Management to assist, identify and coordinate your services
• Dietician Services
• Nursing and Personal Support
• Information and referral to appropriate Services
• School Health Support Services
• Therapy (Physio, Occupational & Respiratory)
• Social Work
• Speech Language Pathology
• Access to Adult and Short Stay Programs
• Placement in Long Term Care

They will work with you to identify and help you gain access to the appropriate community health care services.

A good place to start is to call 705-721-8010 or to consult http://www.ccacsc.on.ca

Now you know.
