North Simcoe Dumpsite May Come To Tiny After All

“Site 41” is a 150-acre parcel of farmland near Wyevale, chosen three years ago by the North Simcoe Waste Management Authority for a new landfill site. Initially, the site was expected to serve the needs of six municipalities, with possible licensing for wider use in future years. An environmental assessment hearing rejected the site because the process of selection was flawed. But it hasn’t gone away yet!

In 1990 the Provincial Cabinet ordered a new hearing to decide: if the process of selection had not been flawed, would the site have been approved?

On May 3 this year, hearings were finally reopened to decide this question. They are open to the public, and are held at the Highland Inn near Midland. They may extend through the summer. For information on hearing times and dates, phone Tiny Municipal Offices, (705) 526-4204.
